Workshop Contents
Learning in a living system: Together, we will develop the theoretical foundations and then directly apply what we have learned in practice by planting together. Our pilot project serves as an inspiring place of learning, bringing to life the diversity of regenerative agriculture and different food forest systems.
Together with our Senegalese partner organisation ‘Yirwa’, we will plant trees in the “PermaFoodForest” and in Abene at ‘Jardin Moringa’ during and after the workshop.
Permakultur – Ethik, Prinzipien, Kreisläufe.
With clear ethics, simple principles and living cycles, you plan places that nourish people, retain water and heal nature – that is permaculture.
- Fundamentals, history and benefits of permaculture
- Ethics & principles: Circularity and sustainable methods
- Praxis Beispiele
Feed the Ground – Understanding soil & soil structure
When we feed the soil, the soil feeds us: you will learn about soil life and fungal networks (mycorrhiza) and use mulch and biomass to build up fertile, water-retaining humus.
Food Forest, complex agroforestry systems & regenerative agriculture
A food forest and agroforestry are planned polycultures: edible trees, shrubs and vegetables work together like a young forest – diversity, yield and resilience grow every year.
- Fundamentals, history, examples
- Polykulturen & Pflanzengesellschaften
- Planning & design: from idea to realisation
- Unterschiedliche Designprinzipien und -möglichkeiten
Implementation – from design to the field
We go out into the field: growing seedlings, planting, caring for and pruning, harvesting and refining – including medicinal plants – so that you can safely replicate the system at home.
- Plants, seedlings and nurseries: from cultivation to care
- Anlegen eines Food Forest Systems
- Maintenance, succession, and pruning
- Harvesting, processing and refinement
- Medicinal plants in the permaculture system
The aim is to enable participants to independently conceive, plan and implement regenerative systems – tailored to different climate zones and conditions. The learning environment combines theory and practical experience: you will see how plant communities interact in agroforestry, how biomass is produced and used, and how value chains are developed from tree and shrub cultivation to processing and drying.
This workshop is intended for
- Farmers, small-holders and people interested in agroforestry with little or no basic knowledge of permaculture
- Multipliers and agricultural trainers who want to deepen their knowledge of sustainable cultivation methods
- Anyone who wants to develop a deeper understanding of regenerative agriculture in a practical way
- Students, trainees, NGO employees with no prior knowledge of permaculture.

Jens Hauck
Changemaker for a regenerative future Jens is co-founder of the FoodForestNetwork e.V., the Sarsarale Project Garden and the PermaFoodForest in Senegal. He is also a designer, consultant and trainer for the semi-arid project Ana Fonio near Dakar. He has extensive training as a certified permaculture designer in complex agroforestry and ecosystem management. He is also a project manager, carpenter, renewable energy coordinator and systemic trainer. In addition, he has completed further training in syntropic agroforestry with Ernst Götsch, natural medicine in the tropics, and solar water pump systems and irrigation.
For over two decades and across numerous climate zones, Jens has been involved in farm development, permaculture, food forests, medicinal plants, circular economy and self-sufficient living. In addition to designing projects in various climate zones, his focus is on syntropic agroforestry, the development of replicable blueprints for food forests, and workshop and lecture activities. Convinced that all the solutions to the current crises already exist, he is passionate about establishing constructive systems worldwide.

Birame Diop Badji
Birame Diop Badji is a geographer and geomatics engineer specialising in spatial planning and sustainable development. Learning Location
