The story of FoodForestNetwork began in 2009 in West Africa under the name ‘Sarsarale’. The move to Germany coincided with the establishment of a forest garden in Rehfelde, near Berlin.
In addition to the various forest garden systems and the “Rehfelder Forest Vegetables” vegetable farm, the Rehfelde Forest Garden features a community garden area with experimental plots. Here, people from Berlin and the surrounding area can try their hand at gardening and grow their own food. The experimental plots were designed according to permaculture principles. They support our large forest garden in several ways:
- socially, because we have such an active community on the site,
- in building knowledge, because we grow crops in so many different ways with so many different people, and in doing so we learn from one another,
- financially, because we can use the cost contribution to cover our expenditure.

Our fixed dates for 2026 are always on the first and third Sunday of the month from 2 pm to 5 pm:

A look at… the Crawford woodland garden system
The central section of the Südwiese is a carefully planned forest garden area modelled on Martin Crawford’s approach. The aim is to establish polycultures here that are easily accessible and also serve as food gardens.
