What we do

Food forests are agriculture and nature conservation in one. They produce high-quality food while helping to address today’s environmental crises. Our mission is to bring more and more food forests to the world and to drive the transformation of agriculture. That’s why we connect with people and projects that want to contribute. Together we promote knowledge, development, research and financing of food forests.

What is a food forest?

A food forest is a form of ecological and regenerative agriculture that is modeled on nature. Different plants are grown together (polyculture) to form a resilient and healthy ecosystem. Perennial plants, such as shrubs and trees play a central role. Food forests are therefore also known as complex agroforests or forest gardens.

Food forests have the potential to provide all the ingredients for a healthy diet and can even produce other products (wood, fibers, medicinal herbs). At the same time, Food Forests provide ecosystem services that are urgently needed today: they build fertile soil, increase biodiversity, cool the local climate, permanently store carbon and much more.

Why we do it

Our guiding principle: Earth Care, People Care, Fair Share

For a future worth living in, humanity must learn to work in harmony with nature. We demonstrate an alternative agriculture based on the principles of permaculture. We want to give as many people as possible the opportunity to put their commitment into practice. We focus on local processing and direct marketing. This guarantees producers a fair income and gives them greater influence over their share of the value chain.

What we offer

Network

We are and see ourselves as an active network. Our aim is to connect and support as many people as possible who are interested in developing new or existing food forests.

Implementation

We establish planning and gardening collectives and cooperatives to quickly start implementation on new plots. Our experience is growing every day.

Workshops and lectures

We give lectures and organise workshops with different trainers and speakers. We train multipliers and motivate people to act.

Planning, design, consultancy

We offer consultancy, assessments, design and planning for external and internal projects, companies, organisations and individuals. In the areas of permaculture, orchards, forest gardens, agroforestry systems and syntropic agriculture.

Background

The climate and biodiversity crises are threatening our very survival. Luckily, the world is full of solutions! At least, that’s what we believe. We are already taking action. For ourselves, for future generations and for the planet.

Climate change

By far the best alternative to industrial agriculture: food forests help solve the climate crisis.

Biodiversity

Food forests preserve plant and animal diversity.

Soil restoration and water

Healing the earth: Topsoil that protects future crops.

Resources and economics

There is enough land and water to feed the world’s population with food forests.

Resilience and food security

Resilient farming systems mean food security despite climate change.

Health and nutrition

Food forests produce high quality, nutritious food.

Permaculture makes possible what is necessary from an ethical point of view

and necessary from a scientific point of view.
